Meet Deb Kahookele

The Leader We’ve Been Waiting For

Deb has lived in Long Beach for 15 years and is deeply involved in local initiatives to make strong communities.

As President of the Promenade Area Residents Association, she has led the initiatives for cleaner and safer parks, was instrumental in building the Promenade Square Playground, activated community spaces, and is a strong advcocate for affordable housing, safe communities and thriving business.

Deb understands the unique needs of District 1, from the Downtown Core to the vibrant and one of a kind Willmore City, and often overlooked Washington District, Deb promises to be a champion for all communities in District 1.

Deb is an active member in the Long Beach Rotary Club, multiple boards and committees, and a community leader dedicated to making Long Beach a better, safer city.

Our community has not been heard, advocated for, or listen too for far too long.

District 1 deserves a leader who prioritizes their community over personal interests.

The Issues

HOMELESSNESS

Long Beach is a place where no one should have to camp on sidewalks and no one falls through the cracks. Deb believes in homeless prevention, mental health care and fast services for permanent housing, not an endless cycle of temporary solutions.

PUBLIC SAFETY

The #1 priority of any government should be to keep its citizen safe.  Deb supports local law enforcement, first responders, removal of homeless encampents, changing Metro’s End of Line policy, and supporting all efforts to prosecute criminals in our community.

CLEANSLINESS

Long Beach deserves to sparkle, not stink.  Deb envisions alleys, parks, and beaches that gleam.  No graffiti, no trash, no sidewalk funk.  Just fresh air and a city that sparkles and shines for its residents, visitors and guests.

TENANT PROTECTIONS

Over 75% of district one residents are renters.  Deb will prioritize options that will stabilize rents for all residents.  Deb believes every resident should have enough  discretionary income and not have to spend entire paychecks just to keep a roof over their head.

GOV'T TRANSPARENCY

City Hall should operate in plain sight.  Decisions and dollars should be visible to every resident without digging through red tape.

You will always know what Deb is working on, the status of projects and open communication.

PRO SMALL BUSINESS

Local entrepreneurs flourish as the heartbeat of our economy, turning storefront dreams into thriving neighborhood staples.

Deb completely supports small business, fast and easy licensing, pro-business policies and protection from vandalism, theft and over regulation.

Nobody asked me to run for City Council.  I have relationships with many city leaders because of the work I’ve done, but I am running because I can only do so much as a resident.  As your council person, we can accomplish so much more.

It is time District 1 has a true leader who will fight for the district’s interest and needs.
